As a chartered accountant with over 19 years of experience in the UK, Australia, and Thailand, Matthew has worked extensively within the BDO family as prior to joining this firm was a partner with BDO in Australia. His connection to Thailand began in earnest when he met his wife (who is Thai), and fell in love with the country and its culture as well. He has since immersed himself into the Thai business community delivering various webinars and presentations on doing business in Thailand.
Matthew has particular expertise advising clients in the automotive, transport and logistics, and mining industries. He frequently delivers transaction advisory services for clients both locally and Internationally.
Yet his passions extend far beyond technical pursuits. “As an advisor and the firm’s international liaison partner,” he says, “I’m focussed on the direct needs of our clients across the region. When I see each challenge from the client’s point of view, I can begin to map out creative ways they can adapt.”
Matthew credits BDO in Thailand with providing an environment where creative solutions can be pursued. “As a medium sized office in BDO terms, our team can stay agile and flexible,” he says. “This instinct toward adaptation keeps us nimble, letting us remain on the cutting edge in our own industry as we also help our clients keep up with new trends. Technology is a big part of this equation as well”.
Such coordination, of course, depends on smooth and effective teamwork. Here, once again, Matthew takes the initiative: “We have a great staff development programme,” he says, “and I’m honoured to play a role in it. I regularly join the other partners and senior managers at the firm to develop and deliver training exercises for our employees. We all learn from the experience – myself included, as it lets everybody involved practice their skills as they develop their EQ as a team.”
